Captain Steve Carpenter
About Captain Steve
Good Day! I have been a Captain for 30 years and hold a U.S. Coast Guard Master 500 GT Oceans, with OICNW, Radar Unlimited, ARPA, ECDIS, GMDSS, VSO, STCW II/3, VI/1, VI/3, VI/5, VI/6, Commercial Assistance Towing, Dynamic Positioning Offshore Unlimited Certification, First Aid/ CPR/ AED, Certified Protected Species Observer and an Open Water Diver Certification. I grew up in New York cruising the U.S. East Coast waters including all of New England. After graduating from Brooks School, where I studied Mathematics and Theology, I pursued a career as a top-quality custom builder. During this period as owner of the construction company, I prepared all job estimates, provided oversight in quality control, training, safety, field work and operations and supervised over 35 employees. My companies built new developments, custom homes and commercial structures, as well as rehabilitation of all types of buildings. In 1989, I moved to St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands and became a U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Master Captain. After living in the Caribbean Islands for over 20 years, I have extensive knowledge of all the West Indies. As a private Yacht Captain, I have been cruising throughout the Caribbean Sea and all the U.S. Coastal waters. From 2010 up to the present time, I have been working as a Captain and Vessel Master in the Gulf of Mexico, the U.S. East Coast and Internationally in Spain and West Africa on 170’ – 205’ Offshore Supply Vessels providing logistical support to major oil companies and U.S. Government assets, including Transatlantic Ocean deliveries. My responsibilities are all vessel operations, management, maintenance, and coordination with clients. Currently, I am Captain of the high-tech Research Vessel “GO America”. This vessel is leased primarily by the U.S. Navy for NAVSEA in Port Everglades, and I have the appropriate clearance as a Navy Contractor. We also work with very high-end clients such as the Discovery Channel, History Channel, NASA, SpaceX, Trident Submarines, Kenny Chesney’s “No Shoes Reef” foundation, and recently recovered the Neptune One balloon for Space Perspective’s maiden voyage to the edge of space. I’m used to providing the highest-level service to clients and owners with particular attention to safety. I have excellent ship handling and engineering skills. My navigational experience has been developed over many years in ports and destinations worldwide. My crew and passenger management skills incorporate team spirit and family values which have been highly effective over the years. The extensive Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS) and ISM training that I continue to participate in, has resulted in a completely accident-free record and enabled me to develop a keen eye for methods to prevent any accidents during all shipboard and shore side operations. My many years of experience, family values, attention to detail and safety, protection of the environment, customer service and customer satisfaction to owners and charter guests on Private Yachts and Commercial Vessels, have provided me the competence to be a unique and highly qualified Captain. I’m very interested in this Captain position and look forward to discussing my qualifications, experience and skill set in more detail at your earliest convenience.
