Data & Account Deletion
Effective Date: August 6, 2026
This page explains how to permanently delete your The Capt App account and the personal data associated with it. You can delete your account yourself from inside the app, or request deletion by email if you can no longer sign in. You do not need an account to read this page.
1. Which App This Covers
This page applies to The Capt App, published by The Capt App, and covers both the mobile applications and the website at thecaptapp.com. It applies to Owner accounts, Captain accounts, and any account created through the Platform.
2. Delete Your Account From Inside the App
This is the fastest method and takes effect immediately.
- Open The Capt App and sign in.
- Go to Profile.
- Open General Info.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.
- Confirm when prompted.
Deletion is immediate and permanent. There is no waiting period, no reactivation window, and no way for us to restore the account afterward.
3. Request Deletion Without Signing In
If you have lost access to your account, email us from the address associated with it:
[email protected]
Subject: Delete my account
To protect your account, we confirm ownership of the email address before deleting anything. We will reply with a confirmation link, and the deletion is carried out once you follow it. We will never delete an account on the say-so of an unverified request, because doing so would let anyone delete an account belonging to someone else.
Verified requests are completed within 30 days, and normally much sooner.
4. What Is Deleted
Deleting your account permanently removes:
- Your account record, login credentials, and email address;
- Your Owner or Captain profile, including any uploaded photos, licenses, certifications, and credential images;
- Vessels and boat listings you created;
- Trips, service requests, and bids you posted or submitted;
- Conversations and messages you sent or received through the Platform;
- Reviews and ratings associated with your account;
- Push notification tokens and saved device information;
- All signed-in sessions, on every device.
5. What Is Retained, and Why
A limited amount of information survives account deletion because we are required or permitted to keep it:
- Payment and tax records. Membership payments are processed by Stripe. Stripe retains transaction and tax records under its own retention obligations, typically for seven years, and we cannot delete records held on their systems.
- Records required by law. Information we must keep to meet legal, tax, accounting, or regulatory obligations.
- Fraud prevention and safety records. Limited records needed to prevent abuse, resolve payment disputes, and enforce our Terms.
- Support correspondence. Emails you sent to support, retained separately from your account.
- Aggregated statistics. Usage data that has been aggregated or anonymized and can no longer identify you.
Retained records are kept only as long as the purpose above requires, and are not used to rebuild your profile or contact you about the service.
6. Membership and Billing
If you hold an active Owner membership when you delete your account, the subscription is canceled immediately. You will not be billed again and it will not renew. Refund eligibility for any amount already paid is governed by our Terms & Conditions.
If you want to end your membership but keep your account, cancel the membership on its own rather than deleting the account.
7. Effect on Other Users
Deleting your account removes your messages from conversations you participated in. Trips and bids you were involved in may still appear in another user’s history in a form that no longer identifies you, where that record is needed for their own transaction history.
