Verification

How we check a licence

Anyone can photograph a credential. We ask the Coast Guard.

Captain uploads their credential

Front and back of the Merchant Mariner Credential, read on their own phone.

We verify with the National Maritime Center

The reference number goes to the Coast Guard's own register — not a photo of a licence, the actual record.

We monitor for expiration and endorsements

A credential that lapses loses its seal, because the date is the fact rather than the day we last looked.

Questions

Before you sign up

Is it really free for captains?
Yes — browsing trips, bidding on them and messaging an owner who hires you are all free, with no membership and no commission. We take nothing out of what you agree with the owner. The app earns from owner memberships instead.
What does a boat owner pay?
$99 a month, cancel any time. That covers messaging captains, accepting bids and exchanging contact details. Posting a trip and reading the bids that come in costs nothing, so you can see who is available before deciding.
Do you take a cut of what I pay my captain?
No. There is no commission, no booking fee and no payment processing in between. You agree a rate with your captain and settle it directly, exactly as you would if you had found them on the dock.
How do you know a captain is actually licensed?
We take the mariner reference number off their credential and check it against the National Maritime Center's own records. See how we check a licence above — and note what the seal does and does not mean.
Which captains see my trip?
Every licensed captain whose own alert radius covers your departure point, narrowed to the trip types they run and to whether your boat is sail or power. Captains set that radius themselves, so a trip in a busy harbour reaches more people than one a long way out.
Can I use it for a delivery rather than a day out?
Yes, and a lot of people do — winter runs south, yard moves for haul-out, and repositioning after a sale. Set the trip type and the captains who take that work will see it.
What if nobody bids?
Nothing happens and nothing is charged. Trips with a departure point in a well-covered area usually see bids quickly; if yours is quiet, widening the dates is the single thing that helps most.
